International Parliamentary Conference, High-Level Commonwealth Delegation Arrives in Karachi

Karachi (03 February 2026): After a gap of 14 years, the Provincial Assembly of Sindh is once again ready to host an International Parliamentary conference. In this regard, a high-level global delegation of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) has arrived in Karachi.

The Chairperson of the CPA Executive Committee and Member of Parliament from Zambia, Dr. Christopher Kalila, arrived at Jinnah International Airport Karachi. He was accompanied by the CPA Secretary General from CPA Headquarters, London, Mr. Stephen Twigg (United Kingdom), and CPA Communications and Office Administrator, Ms. Melanie Denquah, who have also arrived in Karachi. Upon their arrival, MPA Saima Agha welcomed the delegation and presented bouquets.

Under the leadership of Speaker, Provincial Assembly of Sindh, Syed Awais Qadir Shah, the Sindh Assembly is hosting the 7th CPA Asia Regional Conference and the 2nd Joint CPA Asia and South-East Asia Regional Conference from today until 7 February 2026.

The conference will be attended by over 150 parliamentarians, including Speakers, Deputy Speakers, and parliamentary experts from 17 legislative assemblies across the region.

Held under the theme “Future Parliaments: Rebuilding Democracy through Trust, Inclusion, Innovation, and Peace,” the conference will deliberate on key issues such as parliamentary education, the spread of misinformation and fake news, climate change, parliamentary accountability, gender issues, technology, and regional cooperation.
