It is with great honour and pleasure that I welcome distinguished Speakers, Presiding Officers, Parliamentarians, and delegates to the 7th CPA Asia Regional Conference / 2nd Joint CPA Asia & South East Asia Regional Conference – 2026, hosted by the Provincial Assembly of Sindh in the historic city of Karachi.
The Provincial Assembly of Sindh is proud to once again host the CPA Asia Region, having previously convened the 4th CPA Asia Regional Conference in 2012. The return of this important parliamentary gathering to Sindh reflects the enduring commitment of this Assembly to the values, principles, and objectives of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
The theme of the Conference, “Parliaments of the Future: Redefining Democracy through Trust, Inclusion, Innovation, and Peace,” is both timely and compelling. It underscores the responsibility of legislatures to evolve in response to changing societal expectations, strengthen public confidence in democratic institutions, ensure inclusive representation, and promote peace through effective parliamentary engagement.
I am confident that the discussions and exchanges during this Conference will foster mutual learning, reinforce regional cooperation, and contribute meaningfully to the strengthening of parliamentary democracy across the Asia and South East Asia Regions.
In addition to the substantive deliberations, we are pleased to share with our distinguished guests the rich cultural heritage, traditions, and warm hospitality of Sindh. I wish all delegates a productive Conference and a memorable stay in Pakistan.
