Karachi, October 9, 2026:
Speaker Provincial Assembly of Sindh, Syed Awais Qadir Shah, has expressed concern over reports regarding the proposed relocation of Pakistan Petroleum Limited’s (PPL) head office from Karachi to Islamabad, stating that Karachi is the country’s economic hub and has played a significant role in the growth and stability of national institutions.
Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah said that PPL’s longstanding association with Karachi reflects the city’s importance to Pakistan’s energy sector. He stated that, as a key national energy institution, any decision concerning PPL’s head office should take into account not only administrative requirements but also Sindh’s economic interests, Karachi’s business significance, and the future of employees associated with the organisation.
Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah emphasised that important decisions concerning national institutions should be based on transparency, economic efficiency, and the broader national interest. He added that consultation with relevant stakeholders and an assessment of the potential implications of such decisions would be a constructive and responsible approach.
He further stated that the relevant authorities should provide a clear explanation regarding reports of PPL’s head office relocation, clarifying the reasons behind the proposed move, its administrative justification, and the future scope of the organisation’s operations in Karachi.
Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah expressed hope that the relevant authorities would carefully review the matter, giving due consideration to Sindh’s interests, Karachi’s economic significance, and the rights of PPL employees.
