Karachi, June 3, 2026:

The Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Yang Yundong, called on Speaker Provincial Assembly of Sindh, Syed Awais Qadir Shah, at his office on a farewell visit ahead of the completion of his tenure in Karachi.

The meeting was also attended by Vice Consul General Feng Deheng, while Secretary Provincial Assembly of Sindh G.M. Umar Farooq and Director General Media Irfan Ahmed Memon accompanied the Speaker Provincial Assembly of Sindh.

During the meeting, Consul General Yang Yundong reflected on his tenure in Karachi and expressed gratitude for the warmth, cooperation, and goodwill extended by the people of Sindh, the Government of Sindh, and the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party. He stated that the friendship between Pakistan and China is so strong and enduring that he never felt far from home during his stay in Karachi.

He further remarked that Karachi is a vibrant, peaceful, and opportunity-rich city that holds great appeal for people from all walks of life.

During the meeting, Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah said that relations between Pakistan and China are founded on mutual trust, cooperation, and longstanding friendship.

Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah stated that the Provincial Assembly of Sindh recently passed a unanimous resolution commemorating 75 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, paying tribute to the visionary leadership of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who laid the foundation of this historic friendship, while also acknowledging the contributions of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, President Asif Ali Zardari, and Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in further strengthening bilateral ties.

Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah observed that from Chairman Mao Zedong to the present Chinese leadership, China has stood by Pakistan through times of both challenge and prosperity.

Consul General Yang Yundong recalled that Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was among the last world leaders to meet Chairman Mao before his passing, highlighting the historic significance of the relationship between the two nations.

Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah remarked that if the Consul General remains in Karachi during the upcoming budget session, a special farewell reception would be arranged in his honour by the Members of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh.

The Speaker also referred to the recent visit of President Asif Ali Zardari to China, including his visit to Chairman Mao’s hometown, describing it as a reflection of the deep respect and historic bond shared between the leadership of the two countries.

The Speaker stated that Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had rightly observed during a recent event commemorating 75 years of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations that Pakistan was among the first countries to befriend China, and that the friendship between Pakistan and China remains unique, unconditional, and unparalleled.

During the meeting, Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah proposed the establishment of a Pakistan-China Friendship Group in the Provincial Assembly of Sindh on the lines of similar groups functioning in the National Assembly of Pakistan.

Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah suggested that the group should include representatives from all parliamentary parties, including both treasury and opposition benches, to further promote legislative engagement, people-to-people contacts, and business cooperation.

Consul General Yang Yundong welcomed the proposal and observed that such an initiative would further strengthen Pakistan-China relations at the provincial level.

The Consul General suggested that, through such a platform, parliamentary delegations from the Sindh Assembly could undertake future visits to China.

Syed Awais Qadir Shah also expressed his desire to visit China, particularly Chairman Mao’s hometown.

During the discussion, the Speaker, recalling his experience as former Minister for Transport Sindh, shared his interactions with Chinese companies during the procurement of buses for the People’s Bus Service and noted that Chinese institutions ensured the timely delivery of buses to Sindh despite competing international orders.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Speaker Provincial Assembly of Sindh Syed Awais Qadir Shah presented Consul General Yang Yundong with a copy of the unanimous resolution passed by the Provincial Assembly of Sindh commemorating 75 years of diplomatic relations between the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the People’s Republic of China.

The Speaker also presented him with the Legacy Shield of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh, a traditional Sindhi Ajrak and Sindhi Cap, as well as books on the history of Sindh and the Provincial Assembly of Sindh.

Consul General Yang Yundong thanked the Provincial Assembly of Sindh and Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah for the honour and hospitality extended to him and stated that his tenure in Karachi had been marked by friendship, mutual respect, cooperation, and many positive experiences.
