Is it fact that Launches,boats and Trollers are manufactured at fish harbor Karachi,if so, details thereof?
ANSWER
MR. MUHAMMAD ALI MALKANI: MINISTER FOR LIVESTOCK & FISHERIES: -
Yes,
A large number of wooden boats of different sizes are built & repaired at Karachi Fish Harbour.
Last year 20 new wooden boats are made and 45 new boats are under manufacturing process at the boat building yard, KFHA.

a) Is it a fact that the government is taking efforts to encourage sustainable fisheries management practices in the province;
b) What are the specifics if the response to (a) above is yes?

Yes,
The Government of Sindh, through the Fisheries Department has always taken strong action against illegal unreported unregulated fishing through following main approaches:
1. Enforcement of Closed Season.
2. Ban on illegal Nets and Gears.
3. Ban on bottom trawling.
4. Ban on fishing of vulnerable species.
5. Vessel Monitoring System (VMS).
6. Turtle Excluder Device (TED).
7. Licensing and Regulation system.
8. Awareness and Training Programs.
Hence, the government’s above stated actions are fundamental components of a strategy to promote sustainable fisheries management in Sindh.

(a) Is it a fact that steps have been taken to integrate new technology into fish farming?
(b) If the response to (a) above is in the affirmative, what are the details?
ANSWER

Yes, Fisheries Department have taken steps on integration of new technologies in fish farming such as:
a) Introduced Bio floc Aquaculture Techniques to promote intensive fish farming with minimal water usage.
b) Promoting Cage Culture and Pen Culture.
c) Mono-sex Tilapia seed Production (All Male Tilapia).
d) SLADP, World Bank funded project, introduced new verities like Sea bass, Shrimp and other activities to promote fish farming on modern lines/techniques.

(a) Is it a fact that that development work for farming is being carried out in different districts by the private sector/NGOs to make it much better,
(b) If the response to (a) above is in the affirmative, what are the details?

It is a fact that various NGOs /Private Sectors are engaged for the development of Livestock and Fisheries sector throughout the Sindh.
A few of them are closely coordinate with Livestock and Fisheries Department but most of them are working independently.List of organization NGOs working in the Livestock and Fisheries Sector are at Annexure placed on the table of the House.

Amount collected from sea fishing license fees in Karachi during the period 01-01-2023 to 01-01-2025?

An amount collected from sea fishing license fee is Rs. 27,099,757/- during the period of 01.01.2023 to 01.01.2025

Whether any measures were taken to prevent illegal fishing in Sindh during the period 01-01-2024 to 01-01-2025, if so, the details thereof?
ANSWER
MR. MUHAMMAD ALI MALKANI: MINISTER FOR LIVESTOCK & FISHERIES: -
Yes.
Government of Sindh through Sindh Fisheries Department (Marine Wing) has always been taking full action against illegal fishing.
1. The Department of Fisheries, Marine Wing, Government of Sindh, ensures compliance with the ban imposed under the Closed Season from 1st June to 31st July every year. Sindh Fisheries Ordinance, 1980 (Amended Act 2011), to promote the breeding and growth of aquatic life.
2. Actions have been taken against illegal fishing nets and gears Sindh Fisheries Ordinance, 1980 (Amended Act 2011).
3. The Government of Sindh has imposed a complete ban on bottom trawling and the enforcement of which is carried out by the Department of Fisheries, Marine Wing.
4. The Fisheries Department monitors and surveys this activity through various methods; including checking fishing licenses, ban nets etc.

Whether any research programs were conducted on fish breeding in Sindh during the period 01-01-2022 to 01-01-2025, if so, the details thereof?

Yes.
Training and Research programs were conducted on fish breeding of major and minor Carps, Tilapia, Cat Fishes, Sneak head fish and ornamental fishes in public fish Hatcheries of fisheries wing of Livestock and Fisheries Department Government of Sindh.
