Reply of PAQ No:03 submitted by the Deputy Director General (RMNCH), Hyderabad, Sindh that total 19784 Lady Health Workers (LHW) are working in the Province and list of district-wise is at Annexure Placed on Table of the House.

Will the Minister for Health be pleased to State:-

District-wise number of people died from gastro in Sindh during 1st July 2021 to 1st July 2023 along with steps taken by the government and intends to take precautionary measure in future?

Step taken by the Government of Sindh.

  1. Medical Camps were arranged.
  2. Health awareness sessions were conducted.
  3. ORT corners were established in all DHQ’s, THQ’s, RHC.s & BHU’s.
  4. WASA was taken on board for chlorination of water supplies.
  5. Aquatabs were provided for chlorination of water tanks and tankers.
  6. Outbreak investigations were carried out where outbreak took place and response generated.

 

Precautionary measures to be taken in future.

  1. Chlorination of water will be ensured by taking WASA on board.
  2. Distribution of Aquatabs as per requirement of the districts.
  3. Health awareness sessions will be conducted regarding hand washing and personal hygiene.
  4. Adequate supply of ORS and syrup/tablet zinc to the districts.
  5. Necessary interventions will be done with assistance of RRTs & DDSRU’s.

What steps have been taken to prevent epidemic disease?

 

ANSWER

 

DR. AZRA FAZAL PECHUHO: MINISTER FOR HEALTH:-

 

            Many steps have been taken by Health Department, Government of Sindh as describe below:

  1. Provincial Disease Surveillance and Response Unit (PDSRU) under the administration control of Directorate General Health Services Sindh (DGHSS), working on technical and responsible for retrieving all data on infectious / notifiable diseases from districts response units and to determine disease patterns.
  2. PDSRU leads the communication channel with the chair in a moment of urgency, avoiding administrative protocols.
  3. PDSRU shares infectious diseases data with Federal Health Ministry with permission of DGHSS.
  4. PDSRU managed to place surveillance mechanisms through DHIS-2 (online software), an Event-Based Surveillance system and Laboratory-Based surveillance system to efficiently detect threats of any nature.
  5. The workforce of PDSRU and DDSRU are qualified public health professionals, Advance FETP fellows and frontline FETP fellows are trained HR with versed experience in the field of Epidemiology.
  6. DHIS-2 online surveillance system encounters data from approximately 2087 health facilities in the province under the government and PPP node.
  7. An antimicrobial resistance surveillance system is in place through an online dashboard data.
  8. Daily threat alerts are being generated through DHIS-2 software.
  9. All 30 Districts generate weekly bulletin and PDSRU disseminates to all stakeholders.
  10. PDSRU carries out necessary supervision and monitoring of disease burden.
  11. District response team investigates and verifies all reported cases and share information with PDSRU and District Health Officer.
  12. DG, Health and EPI section ensures implementation of widespread vaccination programs to build immunity within population and prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
  13. Deputy Director General, VBD ensures the controlling of vector responsible for transmitting diseases like Malaria or Dengue, also preventing outbreak by taking measures such as insecticide spraying, mosquito nets and environmental management to reduce breeding sites.
  14. Public Health Awareness and Health Education sessions is in routine process under the Deputy Director General, Health Education at DG Health Office, Hyderabad regarding Disease transmission, Prevention measures and importance of hygiene practices conducted.
