Subject: RESOLUTION.
I am to state that the Provincial Assembly of Sindh in its sitting held on Monday, the 15th November, 2010 has unanimously passed the following Resolution moved by Syed Faisal Ali Sabzwari, Minister for Youth Affairs, Sindh:-
“Faiz Ahmed Faiz was one of the most prominent Pakistani poet who won unparalleled global acclaim. He symbolized all that is human, dignified, refined, brave and challenging. His poetry reflects his intellectual resentment and resistance against an unjust and archaic social order which he rejects on rational grounds as anti human; yet it has no bitterness. He remains loving and loveable, respected and respectful.
The year 2011 will be the 100th Birth Anniversary of Faiz and it is not only a social responsibility of the entire nation to pay homage to the great poet but also the pressing need of the times to commemorate his legacy in a befitting manner in the coming year.
It is therefore resolved that this House recommends to the Provincial Government that the year 2011 be declared Faiz Ahmed Faiz year and be celebrated officially. The Provincial Government should plan for and organize events in the major towns in their respective jurisdiction to pay befitting tribute to the memory of Faiz.
The Sindh Government may advise the Culture Department with all the cultural institution, academic bodies to celebrate the memory of Faiz and disseminate his message through all avenues of mass communication involving all segments of society. The support and assist non government institutions initiatives taken for promotion of Faiz’s message, individual endeavors to write books and publication of generals commemorating Faiz should be assisted ensure that the poetical and prose work of Faiz are translated in Sindhi language and widely disseminated.
The Provincial Government may also approach the Federal Government to celebrate Faiz Ahmed Faiz year in the same manner.”
