(a) Is it fact that Rs.25000 million allocated in 2017-18 for promotion coconut palm cultivation in the coastal areas of Thatta and Badin;
(b) If answer to (a) above is affirmative, progress made and amount spent upto 30-6-19?
ANSWER

It is apprised that no allocation has been made to Sindh Forest Department in 2017-18 for promotion of coconut palm cultivation in the coastal areas of Thatta and Badin.

Area in acers and Location in the Province on which Indus Delta Mangroves consist?
ANSWER
MR. MUHAMMAD TAIMUR TALPUR, MINISTER FOR FOREST:
In Sindh Province 1,500,000 acres of land falls under Indus delta Mangroves starting from Korangi creek upto sir creek. Map is at annexure placed on the Table of the House,
3094. *Dr. Muhammad RafiqueBanbhan: Will the Minister for Forest be pleased to state:-
(a) Is it a fact that officers of Department are involved in illegal trees/wood cutting;
(b) If answer to (a) above is affirmative, the details thereof including action taken against them?
ANSWER
MR. MUHAMMAD TAIMUR TALPUR, MINISTER FOR FOREST:
This is not correct that officers of Sindh Forest Department are involved in illegal trees/ wood cutting, in fact the forest officers have been striving to protect forestry assets with bare handed. Forest staff including officers face harsh conditions of Kacha areas to protect forest and at times put their lives at risk. However, as and when any complaint is received in this regard prompt action is taken against delinquent official(s) under prevailing rules.
3228. *Mr. Muhammad Rashid Khilji: Will the Minister for Forest be pleased to state:-
(a) Is it a fact that Government intends to maintain new forests in the Province;
(b) If answer to (a) above is affirmative, the details thereof?
ANSWER
MR. MUHAMMAD TAIMUR TALPUR, MINISTER FOR FOREST:
Yes, it is a fact that government intends to increase tree cover in the province, through establishment of block and linear plantations. The area designated under various categories of forests makes 8% of the total land mass of Sindh. These forestlands are protected and maintained regularly. Besides, there is potential of expanding tree cover/ forests along road sides, Canal sides and Parks & amenity plots in cities to establish urban forests.
Social Forestry Wing has carried out following plantations in Karachi, Hyderabad,Larkana, Shikarpur, Kambar-Shahdadkot, Jacobabad &Kashmore-Kandhkot districts of Larkana Civil Division.

(a) Whether the department provides internships to the students of the forestry faculty in order to strengthen linkage/collaboration between the academia and forest department;
(b) If answer to (a) above is affirmative, details alongwith steps taken from May 31, 2015 to May 30, 2018?
ANSWER

i) Yes, the internship are provided subject to provision in the development project(s).
ii) Following post graduates were provided internship who were doing research in Mangroves ecosystem.

No it is not a fact that there is any project, being worked out to develop forest over 20,000 acres land between Karachi and Hyderabad.

ANSWER
