(a)   Whether any department exist to check the quality of medicines being provided in government hospitals;

(b)   If answer to (a) above be in the affirmative, the details thereof?

 

ANSWER

DR. AZRA FAZAL PECHUHO, MINISTER FOR HEALTH:

a).Under the provision of section-15 of the Drug Act 1976, the Health Department, Government of Sindh has set up a “Drug Testing Laboratory (DTL)” at Karachi having a Director, Government Analysts, Lab Technicians and Lab Attendants.

The Drug Inspector take samples of drug from Public & Private Sector Hospitals drug stores as well as Private Medical Stores and send to DTL for testing and analysis.

The DTL tests and analyze the drug samples sent by the Drug Inspectors and issue reports under section 22(1) of the said Act.

The tests / analysis of the samples of drugs are performed in accordance with the testing methods and specifications as mentioned in the official Pharmacopeias such as British Pharmacopeia (BP), United States Pharmacopeia (USP), European Pharmacopeia (EP) and Pakistan National Formulary.

(a)   Is it a fact that any  Surgeon (Doctor) is not posted in Civil Hospital, Karachi;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is affirmative, the reasons thereof?

a)      No, it is not a fact.

In fact the department of surgery of Civil Hospital Karachi is being run by the surgical faculty of Dow Medical College Karachi

The Health Department, Government of Sindh under Accelerated Action Plan for reduction of stunting and mal-nutrition in Sindh, allocated Rs. 3092.646 Million for Nutrition Activities under multi-sectoral approach in Sindh for the Financial year 2019-2020.

 

51.       Ms. Kulsoom Akhtar Chandio:          Will the Minister for Health be pleased to state:

            Number of Blood Banks exists in Hyderabad and Karachi?

ANSWER

89 registered Blood Banks exists in Karachi Division, whereas, 40 registered Blood Banks exist in Hyderabad Division.
