267. *Mr. Arif Mustafa Jatoi: Will the Minister for Energy be pleased to state:-
(a) Is it a fact that no commercial coal has been produced from the Thar Coal blocks to date?
(b) If answer to (a) above is affirmative, the reasons thereof?
ANSWER
MR. IMTIAZ AHMED SHAIKH, MINISTER FOR ENERGY:
It is not a fact. Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company in Block-II has started commercial production of coal from 10th July, 2019 for its 660 MW Power Project.
In phase-I, a mine of 3.8 metric tons per annum (mtpa) has been established while next phases are planned as follows:
Phase-II 7.6 mtpa
Phase-III 13.8 mtpa
Phase-IV 22.0 mtpa
This will bring 2310 MW production in the National Grid in addition to existing 660 MW being produced by EngroPowergen Thar Limited (EPTL) Power Company.
303. *Mr. Arif Mustafa Jatoi: Will the Minister for Energy be pleased to state:-
Steps being taken to promote the production of bio-gas in the province to produce electricity?
ANSWER
MR. IMTIAZ AHMED SHAIKH, MINISTER FOR ENERGY:
Biogas has not been utilized to produce electricity in the Province so far.
However, a Pilot Project has been prepared to provide 150 Biogas Plants in Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Shikarpur, Larkana and sub-urban areas of Karachi to produce gas for cooking purpose in small households. After successful completion of Pilot Project, the installation of Biogas Plants will be expedited in the Province.

Steps being taken to promote the use of wind turbines to produce electricity?
ANSWER
MR. IMTIAZ AHMED SHAIKH, MINISTER FOR ENERGY:
At present 1035 MW wind power is being produced through 20 private companies. In addition to this 35 more companies are engaged in development of 2485 MW wind power.
1. Energy Department works as a one window facilitator to wind IPP Developers and coordinate to resolve their issues both with Provincial as well as Federal Departments like NTDCL, CPPA and NEPRA etc.
2. Vigorous steps are being taken by keeping close co-ordination with Board of Revenue for providing/allocating land to wind IPPs.
3. 54700 Acres land leased out to RE Projects and 42000 Acres are reserved for RE Parks.
4. 60 LOI are issued for the development of Solar Wind and Hydro Power Projects, 1236 MW from 24 IPPs being produced, 35 projects are under development of 2485 MW.
5. Wind Tower manufacturing facility is operational in Jhimpir, District Thatta.
6. The new RE policy 2019 is formulated by Federal Government, it is circulated amongst Provinces for comments. Government of Sindh have reviewed it and inserted its valuable inputs.

Total production of coal during the period from January, 2014 to December, 2014?

1620. *Ms. Ghazala Siyal: Will the Minister for Energy be pleased to state:-
(a) Is it a fact that the coal also exists in district Jamshoro at Lakhra in huge quantity;
(b) If answer to (a) above is affirmative, average quantity of coal found in these places?
ANSWER
MR. IMTIAZ AHMED SHAIKH, MINISTER FOR ENERGY:
Yes, coal resources also exist at Lakhra, District Jamshoro.The total area of coal is speared over 1,309 sqkms and the coal reserves are estimated to 1.328 billion metric tons.

Location-wise number and names of dams in Sindh used for power generation?
ANSWER
MR. IMTIAZ AHMED SHAIKH, MINISTER FOR ENERGY:
No dam is used for power generation in Sindh Province.

Number of underground coal gasification projects ongoing along with the names of companies and terms of agreement made thereof as of May 31, 2018?
ANSWER
MR. IMTIAZ AHMED SHAIKH, MINISTER FOR ENERGY:
No underground coal gasification project is ongoing as of the given date May 31, 2018.
