Provincial Assembly of Sindh in its sitting held on Tuesday, the 02nd July, 2019 has passed the following Resolution moved by Mr. Bilal Ahmed, MPA:

“This House resolves and recommends to the Government of Sindh to immediately form PFC Commission which is due since long, it all recommends to hold Intra Party Parliamentary Session to formulate the structure of PFC.”.

107.     *Mr. Arif Mustafa Jatoi:       Will the Minister for Law & Parliamentary Affairs be pleased to state:-

 

(a)   Is it a fact that poor people are not provided free legal advice /representation in criminal cases;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is affirmative, the reasons thereof?

 

ANSWER

Syed Murad Ali Shah (Chief Minister), Minister for Law & Parliamentary Affairs:

All the pauper accused / poor people are provided Legal Counsel/Advocate by the concerned Court and their fee are being paid properly and amount of Rs.3.435 Million is allocated under the head Law Charges to disburse the fee to the Advocate for pauper accused/poor people.

From 1st of July, 2018 the Government of Sindh through its Law Department has embarked on a public-private partnership with LAS to continue services of its flagship project under the name of the Sindh Legal Advisory Call Centre (SLACC).

Ø  The Helpline operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Live hours are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Ø  Callers may record queries after the live hours. The recorded calls are respond to the next day.

Ø  Callers may choose a language they are comfortable talking in.

Ø  Queries, names and identities of the caller are kept confidential and their privacy is secured.

Ø  Free legal advice is given by the experienced High Court Advocates on any legal matters.

Ø  Each and every legal advice is overseen and checked by a former Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Legal Aid Society also provides free legal representation to under trial prisoners free of cost and Sindh Government provides Grant-in-Aid to Legal Aid Society.

 

185.     *Ms. Nusrat Sehar Abbasi:    Will the Minister for Law & Parliamentary Affairs be pleased to state:-

 

(a)   Is it a fact that a project of construction of two (02) court Building at Nasirabad with cost of Rs.55.000 million is to be completed in June 2019;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is affirmative, details of work completed and amount spent todate?
