 515.     *Mr. Khurram Sher Zaman: Will the Minister for Industries & Commerce be pleased to state:-

516.     *Mr. Khurram Sher Zaman: Will the Minister for Industries & Commerce be pleased to state:-

(a)                Whether the Department has taken any measures to address the shortage of water, gas and electricity in all  industrial zones of Karachi;

(b)               If answer to (a) above is affirmative, the details thereof?

 ANSWER

 SYED MURAD ALI SHAH (CHIEF MINISTER) MINISTER FOR INDUSTRIES & COMMERCE:

 Provision of utility services is a responsibility of the departments / organization concerned. However the Industries & Commerce Department through Sindh Small Industries Corporation and Sindh Industrial Trading Estate Ltd. clarifies that:-

Sindh Small Industries Corporation (SSIC), is not mandated to provide the facilities of Sui Gas, Electricity and Water to the allottee (s) as they establish their units after taking these utilities from the relevant authorities at their Industrial Plots. The SSIC therefore does not have any issue of shortage of Sui Gas, Electricity & Water.

In Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE) Ltd, the industrialists get Gas & Electricity directly from SSGC & K-Electric. However water is provided by SITE after borrowing the same from KW&SB. Since there is shortage of water throughout the city, so the SITE industrial units also face the same. However the Government has regularized the sub-soil water to the consumers, which may address the issue of shortage of water there.

 1050.   *Ms. Nusrat Sehar Abbasi:    Will the Minister for Industries & Commerce be pleased to state:-

 District-wise number of Industries in the province along with number of new industries established and number remained closed during last five years?

ANSWER

 SYED MURAD ALI SHAH (CHIEF MINISTER) MINISTER FOR INDUSTRIES & COMMERCE:

 Federal Government vide Circular No.6(159)/90-Policy dated 05-01-1991 has De-regulated the sanctioning procedure for setting-up of industrial units in the country in order to provide maximum free hand to the entrepreneur in selection and establishment of Industries of his own choice. Under existing policy, the industries in the Sindh province are not registered by the Industries & Commerce Department and there is no provision in this regard for doing this function.

However details of such industries located in two government linked entities i.e. Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE) Limited and Sindh Small Industries Corporation (SSIC) are submitted as ANNEXURES I & II placed on the Table of the House.
