Two (02) cases of illegal hunting of Chinkara Deers at Umerkot and Tharparkar have been detected and fined for Rs. 60000/- and 30000/- respectively in 2018

(a)    Is it a fact that the excessive withdrawals of water from various lakes is damaging the wildlife living there particularly migratory birds;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is affirmative, steps being taken to protect the same?

 

ANSWER

 

Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Minister for Forest &Wildlife:

 

a)      Yes it is a fact that due to shortage of sweet water, the lakes are getting dry or getting saline water which is affecting wildlife, particularly the migratory birds.

 

b)      Regulation of water is with Irrigation Department. Sindh Wildlife Department remain in coordination with Irrigation Department for provision of sweet water in these lakes and wetlands during the migration of waterfowls from Siberia.  

*939.   Ms. Nusrat Sehar abbasi:     Will the Minister for Forest & Wildlife be pleased to state:-

 

(a) Is it a fact that the drip irrigation and solar pumps are being used by the Afforestation Divisions;

(b) If answer to (a) above be in the affirmative, the details thereof?

(c) Whether there is any plan for the extension of such programme to other areas of the province?

1.      The estimated population of Hog Deers found in Riverine Forests in Sindh is 2000 Nos.

 

2.      As, regard steps taken for protection of specie concerned, Sindh Wildlife Department filed staff is available to monitor and patrolling at Hog Deer habited areas.

Ø  Riverine & Inland Forest Department initiated encroachment vacation drive and combating against encroachers with bare handed without any financial resources for removal of encroachment.

Ø  FIRs have been lodged against the encroachers of various forests.

Ø  Several meetings were held with concerned Public Vigilance Committees/District Judges and district administrations.

Ø  With all these efforts, so far 13,407.60 acres forestland has been got vacated from encroachers.

In order to afforest the vacated areas immediately, revised version of ongoing development scheme titled “Enhancing tree cover on state forestlands in Sindh” has been submitted to Administrative Department on 06.12.2018 for processing at PDWP forum.

 (a)   Is it a fact that quantity of migratory birds has been decreasing every year;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is affirmative, the reasons thereof?

 

ANSWER

 

Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Minister for Forest &Wildlife:

 Yes, it is fact that the quantity of migratory birds has been decreased as compared to last (05) years, because of many lakes and water bodies in Sindh Province have gone dry due to scant rainfall. It resulted in disappearance of many migratory and resident of birds is decline.
