*43. Mr. Arif Mustafa Jatoi: Will the Minister for Works and Services be pleased to state:-

 

The total length in K.M. of “M” (Motorway) class roads in Sindh Province?

SYED NASIR HUSSAIN SHAH, MINISTER FOR WORKS AND SERVICES:

 

Presently, Works & Services Department is not custodian of any ‘Motorway’ in Sindh Province. Motorways, in Sindh Province, pertain to National Highways Authority (NHA) which comes under the jurisdiction of Federal Government.

 

*148. Mr. Arif Mustafa Jatoi: Will the Minister for Works and Services be pleased to state:-

 

(a)    Is it a fact that the life of a concrete road is 100 years and asphalt road only 3 years;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is affirmative, why concrete roads are not being made in the Province?

 

ANSWER

SYED NASIR HUSSAIN SHAH, MINISTER FOR WORKS AND SERVICES:

 

a)         No.

However, as per Federal Highways Administration report, design life of concrete pavement is 25-30 years, whereas that of Asphalt pavement varies between 10 to 15 years.

 

b)        Concrete roads are not used due to the following reasons:-

·         Cost of concrete road is more expensive than the asphalt road i.e 3 to 4 times more.

·         Concrete road take long time during construction while asphalt road construction can be completed more quickly.

·         Asphalt pavements are the smoothest pavement.

·         Asphalt road produces 50% less noise than concrete road.

·         Asphalt paving road provides better safety of the vehicle against skidding.

·         Concrete roads have higher maintenance cost & complex procedure.

*315. Mr. Arif Mustafa Jatoi: Will the Minister for Works and Services be pleased to state:-

 

The grade-wise number of people given jobs in the Department between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018 including those on contract and on regular basis?

ANSWER

No appointments have been made at the departmental level between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018 on contract basis and on regular basis. 

However, 137 Nos. of people were appointed against deceased / disabled quota and on recommendations of Sindh Public Service Commission as follows: -
