As per Sindh Wildlife Protection Ordinance, 1972, (Amended 2001) Ostrich has not been defined as a wild animal.

(a)    Is it a fact that a project of rehabilitation and improvement of Haleji and Langh lakes wildlife sanctuary, Thatta and Qambar with the cost of Rs.150.971 Million is due to be completed in June 2019;

a)      Yes it is fact.

b)     Total cost of the Project is 50.000 million, whereas, the date of completion is 30.06.2019.

The said project was expected to be completed by June, 2019. But, due to paucity of funds, date of completion is extended by (02) years.

(a)          Is it a fact that the Wildlife sanctuary/game reserve in Taluka Dokri, Larkana is only 10 hectares of land;

(b)         If answer to (a) above is affirmative, the reasons thereof?

Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Minister for Forest &Wildlife:

 

Yes. KhatDhoro, Wildlife Sanctuary, Taluka Dokri, District Larkana consists of 10.522 Hectors (25.99 acres). This wildlife sanctuary was declared in 1976 to provide refuge to the migratory waterfowls. The wildlife sanctuary is a wetland. That is the reason that this area has been declared as wildlife sanctuary.

 (a)       Is it a fact that hunting is allowed to selected people in Pai forest in former Nawabshah District despite being a protected area;

(b)      If answer to (a) above is affirmative, the reasons thereof?

Pai Forest is declared as Game Reserve. Hunting is not allowed. However, the government is empowered to relax the rules and issue the permits in special case.

 Efforts made to stop illegal fishing of Indus blind Dolphins and decrease the dying population of this endangered species?

ANSWER

Previously, the Sindh Fisheries Department was issuing fishing permits in the Indus Blind Dolphin habitat area. As a result of this, local fishermen were also catching the dolphins.

 With the efforts of Sindh Wildlife Department, the issuances of fishing licences by Sindh Fisheries Department have been stopped since 2014. After this the population of this endangered species has increased.

Efforts taken to conserve the endangered species are as follows:-

 - :A series of Protected Areas such as a National Park, 34 Wildlife Sanctuaries and 13 Game Reserves have been established for protection, conservation and management of endangered wildlife species.

 

- :Sindh Turtles and Tortoise Protection, Conservation and Compensation Rules 2014 have been enacted to ensure the conservation and protection of turtles in Sindh.

 

-: Sindh Bearbaiting Control, Compensation and Compounding Rules 2015 were made.

 

- :Confiscation of 780 Black Spotted Pond Turtles and apprehension of 09 smugglers including three Chinese Nationals from DHA, Karachi on 09-09-2016.

 

- :Confiscation of 307 Black Spotted Pond Turtles along-with four smugglers from Shaheed Benazirabad on 29-09-2016.

 

- :Successful rescue of 92 Indus Blind Dolphins stranded in canals from Guddu to Kotri Barrage from 1995 to 2018.

 

- :Successful Raids on Mafia of illegal poaching of migratory waterfowl at Dadu, Thatta (Keenjhar Lake) and Sujawal. Thousands of migratory waterfowls were taken in custody and got released in their natural habitat.

 

- :Runn of Kutch Wildlife Sanctuary was declared to protect Blue Bull (Nil Gai), Chinkara, Wild Ass, White Backed Vulture and long Billed Vulture.

 

-: Declaration of new Chinkara Wildlife Sanctuary in District Tharparkar with the approval of CM Sindh on 01-02-2017.

 

Recent raid at Fishermen Road, Khadda Market, Karachi and recovered about 200 Kgs of Pangolin scales and about 150 Kgs of dried turtle body parts and meat
