“This Assembly condemns the callous and inept attitude of Federal Government not to transfer the real benefit of decreasing international petroleum prices to its citizens.

The House recommends to the Provincial Government to approach Federal Government for fixing the prices of Petrol at Rs. 40/liter and proportionally reduce the prices of all other petroleum products.”

Number of fertilizer factories exist in Sindh along with the number of new units established during 2008-13 upto June?

ANSWER

MR. ALI NAWAZ KHAN MAHAR, Minister for Agriculture:

There are Four (04) numbers of fertilizer companies exist/working in Sindh out of which only one new unit has been installed/established listed at Sr. No. 02 during 2008-13.

1.      M/s Engro Fertilizer Company Daharki.    (Old)

2.      M/s Engro Fertilizer Company Daharki.    (New)

3.      M/s Fauji Fertilizer Company Ltd. Mirpur Mathelo Ghotki.

4.      M/s Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim Ltd. (FFBL), Karachi.

Number of registered pesticide companies working in Sindh?

 ANSWER

MR. ALI NAWAZ KHAN MAHAR, Minister for Agriculture:

There are 98 registered companies working in Sindh province. List at Annexure, placed on the table of the House.

(a)   Is it a fact that people of other provinces or countries are working for agriculture research in Sindh;

(b)   If answer to (a) above be in the affirmative, the location-wise number of the same?

 ANSWER

MR. ALI NAWAZ KHAN MAHAR, Minister for Agriculture:

(a)   Yes.

(b)   Federal Government has established their setup for conducting Agriculture Research in Sindh as detailed below:-

Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC)

   Established Sothern Research Centre in the premises of Karachi University

(331 Officers/Officials are working).

   Established Sugarcane Research Station at Thatta.

(14 Officers/Officials are working).

 Pakistan Central Cotton Committee (PCCC).

   Established Cotton Research Station at Sakrand.

(55 Officers/Officials are working).

   Established Cotton Research Station at Umerkot.

(31 Officers/Officials are working).

 Pakistan Oil Seed Development Board (PODB).

   Conduction Research on Oil Seed and on Palm cultivation.

   An area of 65 acres has been provided to PODB by Agriculture Research Sindh at Ghulamullah Farm for establishment of Palm Oil Extraction Plant. Construction work is in progress.

   At present no permanent staff posted at Ghulamullah Farm by PODB.

 *1214. MR. MUHAMMAD MOIN AAMIR PIRZADA: Will the Minister for Agriculture be pleased to state:-

Quantity of cane crushed by the Sugar Mills during 2011-12 along with the quantity of sugar produced?

(a)   Is it a fact that companies producing agricultural medicines and seed provide funds for agricultural research in the province;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is affirmative, the details thereof?

 ANSWER

MR. ALI NAWAZ KHAN MAHAR, Minister for Agriculture:

There is no any company producing agricultural medicines and seed provide funds for agricultural research in the province.

 *2311. DR. SEEMA ZIA: Will the Minister for Agriculture be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that despite excellent mango crop our mangoes are not exported to other countries;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is affirmative, any plan to keep a big international level exhibition of mangoes in Karachi and to invite all the international exporters?

 ANSWER

MR. ALI NAWAZ KHAN MAHAR, Minister for Agriculture:

(a)      Mangoes from Pakistan are exported to more than 50 countries. Out of total production of 1.6 million tones only 0.085 million tones are exported. Maximum quantity is exported to UAE (0.032 million tones) followed by Saudi Arabia (0.010 million tones). Among European destination largest quantity is exported to United Kingdom (0.012 million tones) and Belgium (0.01 million tones).
