Summary of Proceedings

Provincial Assembly of Sindh in its sitting held on Tuesday, the 18th November, 2014 has unanimously passed the following Resolution moved by Mr. Nand Kumar, MPA:-
“The Assembly resolves and recommends that the Government take appropriate action against the injustice against religious minorities that are increasing day by day. Girls of the Hindu community are being kidnapped, raped and their religion changed by force. This Assembly also recommends that a minor girl namely Anjli Meghwar, who was kidnapped from Dahrki be recovered and handed over to her parents and culprits arrested and punished. The Government should ensure that in future no such practice is repeated and all the members of this august House are requested to play their role within their Constituency to protect the rights of religious minorities.”

*1301. MS. NAILA MUNIR: Will the Minister for Information be pleased to state:-

Number of men/women journalists alongwith number out of above registered in the province?

 ANSWER

MR. SHARJEEL INAM MEMON, Minister for Information:

Journalists are privately recruited by Print and Electronic Media. There is no provision in rules for their registration or to maintain their gender wise record with the department. However, 1475 Journalists have been issued accreditation cards by the department during this year, 2014.

 *1302. MS. NAILA MUNIR: Will the Minister for Information be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that there is any arrangement for training of new entrants journalists and to brief them about the performance of the departments of the province;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is affirmative, the details thereof alongwith the steps taken by the Government for Social Security of journalists?

 ANSWER

MR. SHARJEEL INAM MEMON, Minister for Information:

The Information Department, Government of Sindh does not recruit Journalists in the Department. However, as per Rules, the desirous candidates who intends to work in Information Department should meet the following eligibility criteria:-

1.    Age.

2.    Academic qualification of masters in Mass Communication.

3.    Domiciles/PRC.

Although there is no arrangements for pre-training of new entrants in the Information Department but post entry trainings/courses are conducted from time to time for enhancing their skills and professional abilities.

As regards Social Security to Journalists, financial assistance, medical assistance and grant-in-aid are provided to deserving Journalists and Press Clubs on need basis. The Government is also contemplating for provision of Health and Life Insurance of Journalists from the next financial year.
