 FOREST DEPARTMENT

 LIST OF STARRED ASSEMBLY QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS FOR

 MONDAY THE 20TH OCTOBER, 2014.

*321. MS. NUSRAT SEHER ABBASI: Will the Minister for Forest be pleased to state:-

 (a)   Is it a fact that lot of food stuff spoils in the province due to non-availability of cold storage;

 (b)   If answer to (a) above be in the affirmative, the steps being taken by the government in this regard?

 ANSWER

 MR. GAYAN CHAND, Minister for Forest:

 (a)      Sindh Forest Department has been mandated for conservation, protection and development of forestry resources in Sindh.

 As far as the establishment of cold storage for avoiding food spoiling is concerned, it will be much appropriate if the views of concerned organization (Food/Agriculture Department) may be sought.

 (b)      Does not pertain to Sindh Forest Department.

  *322. MS. NUSRAT SEHER ABBASI: Will the Minister for Forest be pleased to state:-

 (a)   Is it a fact that due to failure of LBOD and RBOD projects destruction has been caused on large scale and mangrove forests are decaying;

 (b)   If answer to (a) above is affirmative, the steps being taken by the Government in this regard?

ANSWER

 MR. GAYAN CHAND, Minister for Forest:

 (a)      No, it is not a fact that LBOD and RBOD have any effect on the decaying of mangrove forests. Basically RBOD and LBOD have been aimed at draining sub-surface and storm water to creek system and their existence has no direct affect on mangrove as the mangrove stands do not exist in the direct spillage of LBOD and RBOD and their location is away from the estuaries.

 (b)      Not applicable.
