(a)   Is it a fact that vehicles driven in the province by the NH, MP all “GP” plates are registered in Punjab/Islamabad not in Sindh;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is affirmative, the reasons thereof?

 ANSWER

MR. MUKESH KUMAR CHAWLA, Minister for Excise & Taxation:

(a)   Partially admitted.

(b)   The National Highway & Motorway Police is the Federal Agency having its Headquarter at Islamabad therefore, usually their vehicles are registered at Islamabad.

       However, if any Federal Government Department applies for registration herein the Motor Registration Wing, Karachi entertain the request as per law/rules/policy and the registration Mark “GP” is allotted exclusively reserved for Federal Government Departments.

(a)   Is it a fact that record of motor vehicle registration, hotel tax and professional tax has been computerized;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is affirmative, since when along with its benefits?

 ANSWER

MR. MUKESH KUMAR CHAWLA, Minister for Excise & Taxation:

Yes. The record of Motor Vehicle Tax, Professional Tax and Hotel Tax had been computerized. However, Hotel Tax had been abolished by Government of Sindh w.e.f. 01.07.2013.

Motor Vehicle Tax

The record of Motor Vehicle Tax of Karachi has been computerized in the year 1992, whereas, in 1999, the Divisional Headquarters of Sindh were also facilitated computerization for registration of vehicles and the entire computerization system has been upgraded in 2009-10 linking all the districts to ensure recovery.

Professional Tax

Fully computerized since July 2013, benefitting the computerization of Database, issuance of computerized challan’s safeguarding the collection of the Government revenue.

No, new wine shops have been opened in any district of the province during 2016-17. As such the information may be treated as nil.

District/grade-wise number of people recruited in Excise & Taxation department during 2016-17 alongwith the criteria followed for the same?

 ANSWER

MR. MUKESH KUMAR CHAWLA, Minister for Excise & Taxation:

It is to state that no regular appointment has been made by the Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control Department Sindh, during the year 2016-17, however the cases of appointment under deceased quota have been processed as per laid down procedure and appointment are made with the approval of the competent authority in grade 01 to 11 in such cases. Details are at Annexure, placed on the Table of the House.
