*3147. MR. KAMRAN AKHTAR: Will the Minister for Energy be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that Rs.120 million has been approved for development of open cast mining in Thar (under ADP 147, 08-09);

(b)   If answer to (a) above be in the affirmative, progress of the project till today?

 ANSWER

SYED MURAD ALI SHAH (Chief Minister), Minister for Energy:

    (a)      A Scheme of development of open cast mining at Thar Coalfield namely “Development of Open Cast Mining in Thar Coalfield (including Feasibility Study)” was included in ADP 2008-2009 at the total cost of Rs.5000 million. However the scheme was dropped in the year 2009-2010 due to signing of Joint Venture agreement for Development of Open Cast Mining in Thar Coalfield at Block-II with M/s Engro Corp.

    (b)      No expenditure was incurred on ADP No. 147 (ADP 2008-2009) as such the scheme was not executed.

 *4225.MS. NAILA MUNIR: Will the Minister for Energy be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that work on solar energy based technology is going on in Karachi;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is affirmative, the details thereof?

 ANSWER

SYED MURAD ALI SHAH (Chief Minister), Minister for Energy:

The Government of Sindh, Energy Department is working on the accelerated deployment of Solar Energy technologies in public building of Karachi with special focus on electrification of schools and hospitals. The negotiation for project development and financing are in process with the World Bank.

 *4540.MS. HEER SOHO : Will the Minister for Energy be pleased to state:-

          Year-wise names of programs started and completed by the Energy department during 2009 to 2013 as well as detail thereof?

 ANSWER

SYED MURAD ALI SHAH (Chief Minister), Minister for Energy:

Year-wise/phase-wise programs started and completed by HESCO/SEPCO/K-Electric and sponsored by Energy Department during 2009 to 2013 are listed at Annexure-I and II, placed on the Table of the House.        

*4541. MS. HEER SOHO : Will the Minister for Energy be pleased to state:-

(a)      Limit to construct energy power projects in the province alongwith names of departments in which the same have been established;

(b)      Whether some projects are being run by private sector also;

(c)      If answer to (b) above is affirmative, the details thereof?

 ANSWER

SYED MURAD ALI SHAH (Chief Minister), Minister for Energy:

    (a)      There is no limit. Government intends to bridge the gap of demand and supply of Electricity. Energy Department is executing various projects through private sector, PPP partnerships and Government of Sindh owned companies.

    (b)      Yes a number of projects are in development stage by private sector.

 *4595. MS. NUSRAT SEHER ABBASI : Will the Minister for Energy be pleased to state:-

(a)      Is it a fact that reservoirs of high quality coal have been explored near Pangrio, district Badin;

(b)      If answer to (a) above is affirmative, steps being taken by the Government in this regard as well as benefits of the same?

 ANSWER

SYED MURAD ALI SHAH (Chief Minister), Minister for Energy:

(a)   Geological Survey of Pakistan is carrying out survey activities at Badin coalfield and its adjoining areas. A coal seam of 6.17 meter at a depth of 381.46 meter has been encountered in a drill hole at Pangrio. Quality of coal is of the same quality as of Thar Lignite. Exploratory work is underway. However, quantum of reserves is yet to be calculated.

(b)   The results of the study will decide future actions/steps to be taken.
