*4002. MS. NUSRAT SEHER ABBASI: Will the Minister for Culture be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that ancient Nehal Darya Temple constructed with glazed stones in Thatta has been occupied by two Police Officials Yaqoob Shah and Raju Kokri of Palang Muhallah and precious antiques and statues are also missing there;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is in affirmative, action taken by the Government against above Police Officials?

 

ANSWER

MS. SASSUI PALIJO, Minister for Culture:

(a)      According to the Curator of Archeology Department, it is fact that the ancient Nehal Darya Temple in Thatta has been occupied by one police official Yaqoob Shah and the family of Raju Kokri, who have no legal document of any kind on query from various quarters, no authentic information regarding theft of antiquities from Temple was received.

(b)      The Culture Department has directed the District Administration, Thatta to take legal action against occupants of Nehal Darya Temple for vacating the premises.

 

 

*4020. MS. NUSRAT SEHER ABBASI: Will the Minister for Tourism be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that Hathungo City at a distance of 7Kms from Khipro City District Sanghar which is famous for 84 lakes there but at present only 08 lakes contains water;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is in affirmative, does Government intend to establish hotel and picnic point in the premises of the lakes for the tourists?

(a)   Is it a fact that no proper security is provided to the cultural programmes;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is in negative, detail/nature of security provided there?

 

ANSWER

MS. SASSUI PALIJO, Minister for Culture:

(a & b)         Cultural programs are organized by different organizations. It is the responsibility of the organizers of the event to ensure proper security and seek help from police, if required. In case of cultural programs organized by Culture Department, it is normal practice that office of DPO concerned is informed for detailment of police force at the venue of the functions.

 

 

*4365. MS. NUSRAT SEHER ABBASI: Will the Minister for Culture be pleased to state:-

(a)   District wise details/number of cultural programmes organized during 04-04-2009 to            08-12-2010 along with number of districts where unpleasantness occurred as well as number/detail of programmes where miscreants type of people entered;

(b)   If answer to (a) above be in the affirmative, the steps taken to stop the entry of the immoral and miscreant people in the cultural programmes along with name/number of such persons arrested?

ANSWER

MS. SASSUI PALIJO, Minister for Culture:

(a & b)         The details of 137 cultural programmes organized by Culture Department during the period from 4/4/2009 to 8/12/2010 is at annexure, placed on the table of the House. However, because of better coordination with district administration concerned and help of Home Department. Neither any unpleasant incidence occurred nor any miscreants entered in any programme.

*4367. MS. NUSRAT SEHER ABBASI: Will the Minister for Culture be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that 03 lacs square yard feet land belonging to Moen-jo-Daro has been occupied by the National High Way Authority;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is in affirmative, the detail of steps being taken by the Department in this regard?

 

ANSWER

MS. SASSUI PALIJO, Minister for Culture:

(a & b)         The Moen-jo-Daro is ancient site declared as World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. Responsibility of its preservation, conservation and maintenance is of Archaeology Department, Government of Pakistan. However, with passage of 18th amendment, the Culture Department, Government of Sindh is in contact with Federal Government for transfer of control of Moen-jo-Daro to provincial Government.

It is fact that National Highway Authorities proposed to use some area of Moen-jo-Daro for re-alignment of Larkana- Moen-jo-Daro Airport road, because of expansion of runway of Moen-jo-Daro Airport. However, Minister Culture Department, Government of Sindh, intervened and contacted authorities of National Highway Authority, Civil Aviation Authority Archaeology Department and District Administration Larkana. High level meeting was arranged at Karachi under Chairmanship of Chief Secretary, which was attended by all stakeholders. The work of proposed re-alignement of road passing through area of Moen-jo-Daro has been stopped.

 

 

*4419. MS. ZAREEN MAJEED: Will the Minister for Culture be pleased to state:-

The action being taken by the Technical Committee for Dangerous/deplorable Buildings which includes 22 buildings of preserved heritage list?

 

ANSWER

MS. SASSUI PALIJO, Minister for Culture:

The Technical Committee of the KBCA on “Dangerous Building” declared 157 buildings as dangerous, out of which 22 buildings are included in the declared protected heritage list. List of these 22 buildings is at annexure, placed on the table of the House.

The matter of these buildings will be placed before the Advisory Committee, for Heritage Sindh which is headed by the Chief Secretary Sindh for its proper maintenance.

 

 

*4420. MS. ZAREEN MAJEED: Will the Minister for Culture be pleased to state:-

The amount of funds spent on the renovation of Mohatta Palace, Karachi and whether the income accrued from its tickets is also spent on the said palace?

 

ANSWER

MS. SASSUI PALIJO, Minister for Culture:

The administration of Mohatta Palace Museum is under the Mohatta Palace Museum Trust. However, for renovation of museum and expansion/inclusion of new galleries the Federal Government is providing the funds. During last financial year 2009-10, Federal Government provided a sum of Rs. 25.00 million and Sindh Government provided Rs. 15.00 million for the Mohatta palace Museum.

The income generated by Museum is also spent on day to day expenses of the Museum.

 

 

*4449. MS. ZAREEN MAJEED: Will the Minister for Culture be pleased to state:-

District-wise open air theatres as have been established?

 

ANSWER

MS. SASSUI PALIJO, Minister for Culture:

The Culture Department, during last three years has established two multi purpose Open Air Auditorium at Larkana and Khairpur. One Open Air Auditorium at Draza Sharif is under construction and would be completed by end of June 2011.

Culture Department also maintains Open Air Auditoriums at Bhitshan and Sehwan Sharif.  

Apart from above, the Culture Department, for promotion of Socio-Cultural activities has got approved Culture Complexes through ADP Schemes with an auditorium as its component. In first phase such Complexes are being constructed in:-

1.    Thatta

2.    Benazirabad

3.    Sukkur

4.    Tando Allahyar

5.    Mirpurkhas

6.    Mithi

7.    Umerkot

 

In second phase Cultural complexes will be established in remaining districts including:-

1.    Jacobabad

2.    Ghotki

3.    Nosheroferoz

4.    Shikarpur

5.    Sanghar

6.    Badin

These Complexes besides an auditorium will have Library, art gallery, museum and display center for local handicrafts.

 

 

*4452. MS. ZAREEN MAJEED: Will the Minister for Culture be pleased to state:-

(a)   Time by when the Shikarpur city museum will be opened for general public;

(b)   Is it a fact that such project are also under consideration of the government for other districts of the province;

(c)    If answer to (b) above is in affirmative, the details thereof?

 

ANSWER

MS. SASSUI PALIJO, Minister for Culture:

(a)      The Antiquities Department who is looking after the Shikapur city museum has informed as follows.

(b)      Administrative approval has been issued on 15-03-2010, possession of Plot has been received.

(c)      Work has been awarded, and the scheme will be completed with in 24 months. The exact date of opening will be communicated latter on.

There are other museums under construction in the Province, details are given below:-

(1)      Construction of Mukhi House and establishment of Museum of Recent Past of Hyderabad.

(2)      Construction of Old Free Masons Lodge & establishment of Sindh Wildlife Museum at Karachi.

(3)      Construction of Old Mitharam Hostel and establishment of E-Library.

(4)      Establishment of Digital Museum at Jamshoro.

 

The unapproved schemes for the Museum are as under:-

(1)      Establishment of Police Museum Karachi.

(2)      Construction of Site Museum & up gradation & Promotion of visitor facilities at Makli

(3)      Up-Liftment of Site Museum at Amri.

(4)      Establishment of Site Museum at Miani, Hyderabad.

*4453. MS. ZAREEN MAJEED: Will the Minister for Culture be pleased to state:-

Stage of completion of Sindh Digital Museum alongwith time by when it will be on-line?

 

ANSWER

MS. SASSUI PALIJO, Minister for Culture:

No such Sindh Digital Museum is being established by Culture Department.
