*2058. MR. ARIF MUSTAFA JATOI: Will the Minister for Irrigation be pleased to state:-

The number of (A.W.B.) Area Water Board’s functioning as on 31st May, 2009 along with the names of their Members and their respective territorial jurisdiction?

 

ANSWER

JAM SAIFULLAH KHAN DHAREJO, Minister for Irrigation:

The Government of Sindh has constituted following 3 area water boards so far:-

*2072. MR. ARIF MUSTAFA JATOI: Will the Minister for Irrigation be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that a barrage has been planned between Sukkur and Kotri Barrages to irrigate the barren lands on Dadu and Jamshoro Districts;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is in affirmative, the details thereof?

 

ANSWER

JAM SAIFULLAH KHAN DHAREJO, Minister for Irrigation:

As reported by the Chief Engineer Irrigation, Kotri Barrage Hyderabad. A feasibility Study has been conducted for a barrage between Sukkur and Kotri near Sehwan. No further action has been taken.

 

 

*2077. MR. ARIF MUSTAFA JATOI: Will the Minister for Irrigation be pleased to state:-

The members of the W.A.C. of SIDA of each Barrage as on 10th May, 2009?

 

ANSWER

JAM SAIFULLAH KHAN DHAREJO, Minister for Irrigation:

As per Section-13 of Sindh Water Management Ordinance 2002 SIDA shall at each Barrage establish and maintain a Water Allocation Committee (W.A.C).

The Water Allocation Committees of SIDA at Barrages have not been constituted yet, as the Barrage are currently under the control of Irrigation Department, Government of Sindh.

 

 

*2085. MR. ARIF MUSTAFA JATOI: Will the Minister for Irrigation be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that the Sindh Government has not officially placed on record its objection to the Kala Bagh Dam project with other Provinces/Federal Government;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is in affirmative, copy of such letter/correspondence?

 

ANSWER

JAM SAIFULLAH KHAN DHAREJO, Minister for Irrigation:

(a)      The Government of Sindh has lately vide letter No. WR(W)5(P&D)141/2002 date 29-12-06, forwarded comments to Ministry of Water and Power, Government of Pakistan regarding Kalabagh Dam, in which the reservation of Sindh Government were conveyed to the Federal Government.

(b)      Copy of letter referred above alongwith comments is at annexure, placed on the table of the House.

 

 

*2087. MR. ARIF MUSTAFA JATOI: Will the Minister for Irrigation be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that Sindh Government does not independently verify water flows and uses figures calculated by IRSA/Federal Government;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is in affirmative, the reasons thereof?

 

ANSWER

JAM SAIFULLAH KHAN DHAREJO, Minister for Irrigation:

(a)      Each province provides its water flows and utilization data to IRSA where it is compiled. No independent verification of entire data of all other province is done by Sindh Province. However, staff of Irrigation Department Sindh is posted at important Head-works in Punjab Province to monitor and verify the river flow figures and relevant data.

(b)      It is very difficult to post the staff at all the Head-works and regulation points etc. all over the country to check and verify the figures of flows and utilization.

 

 

*2607. MS. HEER ISMAIL SOHO: Will the Minister for Irrigation be pleased to state:-

Details of supply/demand of water during 1st June, 2009 to 1st July, 2009 in the following canals of the province Begari, Ghotki, Feeder, Pat Feeder, Khirthar, Rice Canal, Dadu Canal, Khairpur East, Khairpur West, Nara, Rohri, Kalri Baghar, Akram Wah, Old Phueli and New Phuleli?

 

ANSWER

The requisite information are at Annexures, I, II, III, IV and V are placed on the table of the House.

 

 

*2841. MS. HEER ISMAIL SOHO: Will the Minister for Irrigation be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that the construction work of Kore Shakh (minor) at Daulat Pur with the cost of Rs.110.6 million is not satisfactory and the same had to be completed up to 2008 but yet it has not been completed;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is in affirmative, the reasons thereof?

 

ANSWER

JAM SAIFULLAH KHAN DHAREJO, Minister for Irrigation:

(a)      There is no Kore Shakh (Minor) at Daulatpur under construction with cost of Rs. 110.600 million in Rohri Canal Circle of Sukkur Barrage Left Bank Region Sukkur.

(b)      Nil.

 

 

*3189. MS. HEER ISMAIL SOHO: Will the Minister for Irrigation be pleased to state:-

Location-wise/grade-wise number of employees at present working in SIDA alongwith number of vacant posts therein as well as intention of the Government to fill the vacant posts?

 

ANSWER

*3191. MS. HEER ISMAIL SOHO: Will the Minister for Irrigation be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that despite the restriction on cultivation of rice in sub-division, Rohri, 70 percent crop is being cultivated;

(b)   If answer to (a) above be in the affirmative, the reasons for the restriction?

 

ANSWER

JAM SAIFULLAH KHAN DHAREJO, Minister for Irrigation:

(a)      It is not a fact that 70 percent Rice Crop is being cultivated in any Sub-Division of Rohri Division Sukkur Barrage Region.

(b)      Recently the directives of Honourable President of Pakistan have been issued regarding restriction of Rice Cultivation. Hence no Khatedar is being allowed to sow Rice Cultivation within the territorial jurisdiction of Rohri Division of Sukkur Barrage Left Bank Region.

(b)   All the IRSA officers/officials have be employed on regular basis. No official has been deployed from Irrigation department or from other departments. More over the Chairman/ Members of IRSA Authority are on Contract basis for the period of three years.

 

 

*3496. MS. NUSRAT SEHER ABBASI: Will the Minister for Irrigation be pleased to state:-

Date on which the work of desilting of the Canals of Sukkur Barrage is carried out during the years 2007 to 2009 along with amount of fund released and spent on it as well as procedure for the tender?

 

ANSWER

JAM SAIFULLAH KHAN DHAREJO, Minister for Irrigation:

The work of Desilting of the Canals in Sukkur Barrage Left Bank Region Sukkur was carried out through Department Machinery and some Channels were desilted through private machinery on emergent basis after getting No Objection Certificate from the concerned Mechanical Engineer on the approved rates by the competent authority. (a)   Is it a fact that trees of musk willow, neem, babool and thousands other trees have been    cut off from Nara Canal district Khairpur during January, 2010 to April, 2010;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is in affirmative, action taken by the Government in this regard?

 

ANSWER

JAM SAIFULLAH KHAN DHAREJO, Minister for Irrigation:

(a)      There is no cutting of Musk Willow, Neem, Babool and other trees along Nara Canal District Khairpur, during January, 2010 to April, 2010.

(b)      There is no cutting of trees, hence question for taking action does not arise.
