*2156. MR. NAJAMUDDIN ABRO ADVOCATE: Will the Minister for Culture be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that magazine “Nai Zindagi” is a monthly publication of Sindhi Language;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is in affirmative, number of its publications during last 3 years and in case of pauses in publication, the reasons thereof?

 

ANSWER

MS. SASSUI PALIJO, Minister for Culture:

(a)      Yes. The magazine is registered with the Press & Publication Department, Government of Pakistan.

(b)      (i)   No. of publications in 2007-08                Nil

(ii)  No. of publications in 2008-09                8

(iii) No. of publications in 2009-10                1

Press & Publication Department, Government of Pakistan has informed that reason of pauses in publication is shortage of funds.

 

 

*2391. MR. ARIF MUSTAFA JATOI: Will the Minister for Antiquities be pleased to state:-

Year-wise expenditure incurred on maintenance of the historical Mosque at Khudabad, District Dadu during the period from 01-01-2007 to 25-05-2010?

 

ANSWER

SYED QAIM ALI SHAH JILANI, (Chief Minister) Antiquities:

The information in respect of the Department of Antiquities may kindly be treated as “NIL”.

 

 

*2408. MRS. HUMERA ALWANI: Will the Minister for Culture be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that in 1993-96 tenure of PPP a committee was constituted by Chief Minister late Syed Abdullah Shah to enquire about the actual birth place of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is in affirmative, its details alongwith its terms of reference and progress report of the committee?

 

ANSWER

MS. SASSUI PALIJO, Minister for Culture:

(a)      No such committee was constituted by the Government of Sindh. However in order to ascertain actual position regarding birth place of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah a team of writers and intellectuals of Sindh carried out the research in mid of 1990’s. The team visited Jhirk Town, met the families living there since long and consulted text books printed in 1950’s and came to the conclusion that the birth place of Quaid-e-Azam was Jhirk. It was found that the General Register of Primary School, Jhirk showing Jhirk as birth place of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah has been misplaced.

(b)      Nil.

 

 

*3128. MS. NUSRAT SEHER ABBASI: Will the Minister for Culture be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that employees of BS-1 to BS-14 appointed by the previous Government in the Department were dismissed first by the present Government on the grounds of in eligibility thereafter they were re-appointed;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is in affirmative, the reasons thereof?

 

ANSWER

MS. SASSUI PALIJO, Minister for Culture:

(a & b)         It is correct that 101 employees in BS-1 to BS-14 were appointed in Culture Department in November, 2007. Their services were terminated on an administrative order for termination of services, appointed during the Care Taker Regime. Employees field constitutional petition against the order of their termination. In compliance of the order of the Honourable High Court those employees have been re-appointed/reinstated into the services.

 

 

*3178. MS. NUSRAT SEHER ABBASI: Will the Minister for Culture be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that Municipal Library, Sukkur is being converted into Fire Brigade Office;

(b)   If answer to (a) above be in the affirmative, the reasons thereof?

 

ANSWER

MS. SASSUI PALEJO, Minister for Culture:

(a)      No, it is not fact that Municipal Library Sukkur is being converted into Fire Brigade Office. The fact that Masoom Shah Library Sukkur is being run by Taluka Municipal Administration Sukkur. On demand of citizens, particularly students, getting benefit from the library, the Culture Department has got approved an scheme of its extension and renovation at a cost of Rs. 10.83 million. The scheme includes construction of two reading halls, a lavatory block, renovation of existing building and purchase of furniture and books. Construction work of reading halls is in progress.

(b)      Nil.

 

 

*3261. MS. NUSRAT SEHER ABBASI: Will the Minister for Culture be pleased to state:-

(a)   History of Victoria tower situated in district Jacobabad, is it a fact that due to bad condition it is deteriorating;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is in the affirmative, reasons for not taking any step by the Government in this regard?

 

ANSWER

MS. SASSUI PALEJO, Minister for Culture:

(a)      The Victoria Tower was erected by British Government in February 1887, at the time of Superintendence of Council. S.S. Brigadier General John Jacob, who was the Administrator and Commander. This building was repaired by Taluka Municipal Administration Jacobabad in the year 2000-2001 spending the amount of Rs. 1.00 million. Such funds were provided by the Provincial Government. The present condition of building is deplorable and needs immediate repair/renovation. Keeping in view, the District Government Jacobabad has prepared PC-1 for repair/renovation work of estimated amount of Rs. 2.081 million to protect this historical building from further damages. This PC-1 has been sent to Antiquities Department who are presently looking after the maintenance and repair work of all monuments of Sindh.

(b)      Due to non-availability of funds renovation/maintenance work could not be done.

 

 

*3319. MS. NUSRAT SEHER ABBASI: Will the Minister for Antiquities be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that Government of Sindh has spent Rs. 4.510 millions up to June, 2009 for conservation of Jain Temple at Bhodisar and Development of site;

(b)   If answer to (a) above be in affirmative, work completed during last fiscal year;

(c)    Is it a fact that Government has allocated Rs. 25.812 million in current year for the above scheme under spending sector of Antiquities;

(d)   If answer to (c) above be in the affirmative, work completed during current year alongwith amount spent on it?

 

ANSWER

SYED QAIM ALI SHAH JILANI, (Chief Minister) Antiquities:

(a)      Yes, it is a fact that Government of Sindh allocated Rs. 4.520 million during the financial year 2008-09 for the scheme Conservation of Jain Temple at Bhodisar and Development of Site.

An amount of Rs. 4.509 was spent on development works of Site upto June, 2009.

(b)      Work of documentation and preparation of detailed drawings of Jain Temple is completed; also the work on Development of Site (Visitor’s Facilities) crossed plinth level.

(c)      Yes it is also a fact.

(d)      The Visitor’s facilities (Building) has reached upto lintel level. The investigations on Join Temple and preparations of work plan is in progress. An amount of Rs. 1.844 million has so far been spent on the above work.

 

 

*3409. MS. NUSRAT SEHER ABBASI: Will the Minister for Culture be pleased to state:-

Details of development works carried out as well as fund as have been allocated in Bhambhore for tourists during 2007-2008 and 2009?

 

ANSWER

MS. SASSUI PALEJO, Minister for Culture:

The development/conservation work was not carried out during the period 2007-2008 and 2008-09 and no allocation for Bhambhore was made by the Department of Archeology, Government of Pakistan.

 

 

*3476. MS. NAHEED BEGUM: Will the Minister for Culture be pleased to state:-

(a)   Year in which the minar of Meer Massom Shah located at Sukkur renovated last time;

(b)   Is it a fact that any survey to check the strength and durability of above deplorable minaret has been carried out;

(c)    If answer to (a) above is in the affirmative, the details thereof?

 

ANSWER

MS. SASSUI PALEJO, Minister for Culture:

(a)      The Minar of Meer Masoom Shah was renovated in the financial year, 2008-09 and 2009-2010 under ADP scheme “Rehabilitation/Renovation of Masoom Shah Jo Minar and library at Sukkur”.

(b)      No such survey has been carried out by this department.

(c)      The following components of the scheme were approved for rehabilitation/renovation of Masoom Shah Jo Minar and library at Sukkur:-

 

(i)           Rehabilitation/Restoration of Masoom Shah Jo Minar                Rs. 9.822(M).

(ii)          Repair & Renovation of Masoom Shah Library at Sukkur            Rs. 8.537(M).

 

As per approved PC-I expenditure incurred on Minar Rs. 3.200 (M) and Rs. 5.300 (M) incurred on library.

The approved scheme was discussed in the meeting under the chairmanship of Director General (MEC), Planning & Development Department, Government of Sindh held on 8.2.2010. only IInd part “Renovation of Masoom Shah Library” remained with the Culture Department for execution.

The Antiquities Department had been assigned to work on Prime Minister’s Directive to prepare separate PC-I and be sent to the P&D Department for consideration in the PDWP.
