*1906. MS. HEER ISMAIL SOHO: Will the Minister for Fisheries be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that two hundred boats are built by the fisheries department with the cost of one crore for the fishermen of the Manchar Lake;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is in affirmative, whether said new boats are handed over to the fishermen or not?

ANSWER

MR. ZAHID ALI BHURGARI, Minister for Fisheries:

(a)      It is fact that 200 boats are built by Livestock & Fisheries Department with the cost of 1 crore 40 lacs for fishermen of Manchar Lake.

(b)      All the two hundred (200) boats are handed over to fishermen at Manchar Lake.

Such distribution ceremony was made through Honourable Chied Minister Sindh on 21-03-2009 at Manchar Lake.

 

 

*1932. MR. ARIF MUSTAFA JATOI: Will the Minister for Fisheries be pleased to state:-

Month-wise variety/quantity of fish stock sold to the public during the period from 1st January, 2008 to 30th April, 2009 alongwith cost charged to the Farmers?

 

ANSWER

MR. ZAHID ALI BHURGARI, Minister for Fisheries:

Month wise variety/quantity of fish stock (fish seed) sold to the Public during the period from 1st January, 2008 to 30th April, 2009 alongwith cost charged to the farmers is at Annexure, placed on the table of the House.

 

 

*2009. MR. ARIF MUSTAFA JATOI: Will the Minister for Fisheries be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that there are several private shrimp hatcheries in Karachi and Thatta which have been closed for many years;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is in affirmative, the reasons thereof?

 

ANSWER

MR. ZAHID ALI BHURGARI, Minister for Fisheries:

(a)      There is no private shrimp hatchery in Karachi and Thatta.

(b)      Not applicable.

 

 

*2141. MS. HEER ISMAIL SOHO: Will the Minister for Fisheries be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that due to different reasons number of Palo Fish is decreasing rapidly in the Province;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is in affirmative, the reasons thereof alongwith steps taken by the Government in this regard?


ANSWER

MR. ZAHID ALI BHURGARI, Minister for Fisheries:

(a)      It is a fact that Palo is decreasing due to different reasons:

(i)       Scarcity of water flow in downstream especially during migration of Palo from Sea to River Indus.

(ii)      The usage of prohibited nets such as Bullo, Gujo & Katra nets in the coastal areas/creeks due to which Palo of nay size even juvenile size is caught indiscriminately.

(iii)    Pollution due to release of industrial waste alongwith urban sewerage in River Indus.

(iv)     Fixed nets are present at the joining points of River Indus & Sea due to which Palo migration is affected.

(v)      Catch of mature Palla especially females with ovary.

(b)      The Government has taken various steps to address this issue such as imposing of ban against prohibited nets and action thereof by constituting 05 Raid teams in the coastal areas of the province.

Sindh Fisheries Department with collaboration & financial assistance of WWF Pakistan has launched a project namely “Assess the status of Tenualosa ilisha (Palla) and the causes responsible for its decline in its natural habitats”. Under the project following activities are being carried out:

(i)       Identify hot spots where this species either breeds or takes refuge and the nursery area where the juvenile flourish so as to provide relief to the species.

(ii)      Identify the conservation awareness needs of the dependent populations.

(iii)    Suggest the alternate livelihood options for the dependant populations/ communities.

(iv)     Identify the conservation needs of the species and suggest any policy/practice/ legal change and also suggest for allocation of resources at government of non government level.

Alter completion of the project a report will be complied/submitted to the Government alongwith suggestion.

 

 

*2255. MR. ARIF MUSTAFA JATOI: Will the Minister for Fisheries be pleased to state:-

Number of trainees who have completed training or in process of training under the BBYDP in the department as on 31st May, 2009 as well as type/scope of the training?

 

ANSWER

MR. ZAHID ALI BHURGARI, Minister for Fisheries:

No any trainee completed his training 31-05-2009. However following number of trainees were under process of training on 31-05-2009, with the type/scope of training as mentioned against each.

*2551. MRS. HUMERA ALWANI: Will the Minister for Livestock be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that there is 65% adulteration in the unpacked milk available in rural & urban areas of the province which is causing dangerous disease like Diarrhea, TB, Cholera and Typhoid;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is in affirmative, action taken against the persons involved in it?

 

ANSWER

MIR ABID HUSSAIN KHAN JATOI, Minister for Livestock:

(a)      The raw mil is being adulterated at various stages during the process of transportation from dairy farms of consumers and there is every likelihood of causing Diarrhea, TB and other milk-borne diseases.

(b)      The milk inspection is in the purview of Health Department. Information regarding action taken can be sought from concerned department.

 

 

*2609. MS. HEER ISMAIL SOHO: Will the Minister for Livestock be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that Government markets for livestock exist in the province;

(b)   If answer to (a) above be in negative, the reasons thereof alongwith intention of the Government to open them?


ANSWER

MIR ABID HUSSAIN KHAN JATOI, Minister for Livestock:

The Livestock Markets are being organized by private sector and are being regularized by Local Government under Local Government Ordinance.

The Livestock and Fisheries Departments intends to strengthen these markets through installation of weighing bridges and provision of other facilities.

 

*2610. MS. HEER ISMAIL SOHO: Will the Minister for Livestock be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that livestock department has recommended Sindh Government to close cold storage plant of milk and laboratories of species of animal breading;

(b)   If answer to (a) above be in the affirmative, the reasons therefor?

ANSWER

(a)      No.

(b)      Answer is not in affirmative.

 

 

*2618. MS. NUSRAT SEHER ABBASI: Will the Minister for Livestock be pleased to state:-

District-wise number of cattle colonies established in the province during 2008-2009?

 

ANSWER

MIR ABID HUSSAIN KHAN JATOI, Minister for Livestock:

Construction of cattle colonies at 06 locations were proposed under the Development scheme “Establishment of Cattle Colonies with District and Private participation Phase-I”.

From above, work at following 04 locations have been started during 2008-2009.

1.    Rohalri, Union Council Mahrand Taluka Mithi District Tharparkar.

2.    Deh Chuch Mora Union Council Khetlari Near Naukot Fort Taluka Diplo District Tharparkar.

3.    Umerkot Tappa Additional Keplore Taluka and District Umerkot.

4.    Khairpur.

 

 

*2690. MS. NUSRAT SEHER ABBASI: Will the Minister for Livestock be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that some farms are working under bio-gas technology in the province;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is in affirmative, location wise number of the same?

ANSWER

MIR ABID HUSSAIN KHAN JATOI, Minister for Livestock:

(a)      Yes.

(b)      Bio-gas plant has been installed, only at Research & Training Institute for Livestock Development, Red Sindhi Cattle Breeding Farm Tando Muhammad Khan, under Livestock Department Government of Sindh.

However, 56 Bio-gas plants have been installed by Pakistan Dairy Development Company (PDDC) in the province.

 

 

*2703. MS. HEER ISMAIL SOHO: Will the Minister for Livestock be pleased to state:-

(a)   Is it a fact that a program to established dairy village and processing zone at Bhambhor has chalked out with collaboration of private sector during fiscal year 2008-09;

(b)   If answer to (a) above is in affirmative, whether the said program has been implemented?

 

ANSWER

MIR ABID HUSSAIN KHAN JATOI, Minister for Livestock:

(a)      Yes. The program for the “Establishment of Bhambhore Dairy Village and processing zone for meat animals with public private participation a District Thatta”, has been planned with the collaboration of the private sector, during the year 2009-2010.

(b)      The PC-I of the scheme is in the final stage and the implementation on the program will be started during current financial year i.e. 2009-2010.
