*714. MR. ARIF MUSTAFA JATOI: Will the Minister for Food be pleased to state:-
The salient features of the scheme “Construction of storages through public-private participation” such as the total cost of the scheme, number of projects initiated from 1st January, 2008 till 31st July, 2008 and total storage capacity planned under the said scheme District-wise?
ANSWER
NAWABZADA MIR NADIR ALI KHAN MAGSI, Minister for Food:
Construction of Storages through Public Private Participation in Districts bearing ADP No. 1/43. This is an un-approved Scheme with the cost of Rs. 2000.000 (M). An amount of Rs. 100.000 (M) has been allocated for the current financial year as Capital Component. In order to assess feasibility of the implementation of this scheme, meetings with stakeholders including Flour Mills Association, Sindh Abadgar Board and leading growers were held but no workable idea for its implementation has so for achieved. However, Sindh Abadgar Board (S. A.B.) has been requested to visit the silos near Karachi and examine feasibility of this Project on Public Private Participation. The feasibility report is still awaited. Furthermore, EOI has also been invited through newspapers and proposals are awaited.

(a) Is it a fact that massive stocks of rice lying in Private Godowns in Karachi and other parts of Province;
(b) If answer to (a) above is in affirmative, what does Government intend to do with hoarder?
ANSWER

- The matters pertain to Federal Government, as PASSCO Authorities is under the Administrative Controller of Federal Government.
- Sindh Food department is dealing with wheat only.
*1120. MS. FARHEEN MUGHAL: Will the Minister for Food be pleased to state:-
Rate of (A), (B) and (C) class basmati rice selling during the years 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 in District Hyderabad as well as high prices increased during current year 2008 who is responsible officer to control the high increase in prices?

*1122. MS. FARHEEN MUGHAL: Will the Minister for Food be pleased to state:-
(a) Whether it is a fact that Government has fixed selling price of wheat in Hyderabad District during current year 2008 when there is shortage of wheat and prices have become very high;
(b) If answer to (a) above be in affirmative, rate fixed, authority who fixed it alongwith action taken by the Government against the responsible persons for high rates of wheat?
ANSWER
NAWABZADA MIR NADIR ALI KHAN MAGSI, Minister for Food:
(a) The Government of Sindh has fixed issue price of wheat Rs. 750/- for 40 Kgs and Rs. 1875/- for 100 Kgs without bag during the current fiscal year 2008. It is further stated here that the Government has not enhanced/increase the issue price of wheat during the year 2008, however, the process of wheat in open market is fluctuating owing to the supply and demand in open market, but there is no any shortage of wheat in the Region. The month wise open market rate during current financial year from July to December 2008 is also reported as under:-

(b) As already stated above the Government has not enhanced the selling price of wheat during the current year, so the question of taking action does not arise.

Is it a fact that the Department has announced that all wheat produced in Sindh during Rabi 2008-09 will be required to be sold to the Department at the officially set procurement price?
ANSWER

No such instructions has been isuued.
*1179. MR. ARIF MUSTAFA JATOI: Will the Minister for Food be pleased to state:-
Quantity of wheat required by the Department from the Federal Government alongwith its expected date and point of arrival of origin (local or imported) up to next procurement season in April, 2009?
