*39. MR. ARIF MUSTAFA JATOI: Will the Minister for Information be pleased to state:-

(a)   Planned and actual month-wise expenditure on advertisements to be given by the Government to various publications during the period from 1st April, 2008 to 30th June, 2008;

(b)   Criteria for allocation of Sindh Government advertisements to various publications?

ANSWER

MS.SHAZIA MARI, Minister for Information:

(a)      The information Department disburse Government Advertisements to print media on “circulation cum merit” basis.

At this stage figures up to June, 2008 can not be provided as the month of June, 2008 is yet to come. However, the advertisements space released to newspapers from 1st April to 10th May, 2008 is at Annexure- A, is placed on the table of the House.

(b)      The criteria for allocation of Sindh Government’s advertisements to various publication is “circulation cum merit” as envisaged in the advertisement policy of Sindh Government 2003, duly approved by the Sindh Cabinet.

 

 

*40. MR. ARIF MUSTAFA JATOI: Will the Minister for Information be pleased to state:-

Annual Budget had been allocated for Sindh Archives Wing alongwith facilities as exists for General Public to access historical documents/old records together-with steps being taken to preserve posterity of the same?

ANSWER

MS.SHAZIA MARI, Minister for Information:

(a)      Annual budget allocated fro Sindh Archives in the year 2007-08 is Rs. 32,381,300/-

(b)      The facilities for consulting old record and library are available for visitors during office hours. These records/library being computerized to enhance their accessibility for researchers. Details of main records/library and facilities are available is given below:-

 

DETAILS OF MAIN RECORDS/LIBRARY AND FACILITIES AVAILABLE AT SINDH ARCHIVES

 

(i)       The records from the office of Chief Commissioner in Sindh (1818-1935) have been preserved. Records upto 1919 have been manually catalogued. These records are provided to researchers on demand.

(ii)      A full fledged reference library with ten personal libraries of notables like Dr. N.A. Baloch,    Pir Ali Mohammad Rashidi etc. containing a number of rare books are available for general public during office hours.

(iii)    More than 1000 rare maps of Sindh are available which are being preserved A handlist of 740 maps has been published.

(iv)     The computerization/digitization of records is underway. Softwares have been developed in house for computerized search of these files. Data is being entered therein which is ready for use.

(v)      Apart from above mentioned records a lot of other records i.e. manuscripts (900), civil Lists. Books (40,000)/- microfilms, important collections etc. have been preserved. Finding aids being prepared to make them easily accessible. So far seven finding aids have been prepared. One of them has been published others are to be published soon.

(vi)     A website of Sindh Archives has been prepared and uploaded which is under process of editing. The development of facility for online search records/books through this website like British library is under process. Moreover it will provide details of holdings of other libraries/archives which do not have facility of their website.

 

(c)      The archival records being preserved after fumigation/repairing in preservation Lab. These are also being microfilmed and digitized for preservation and easy retrieval. Details are given below:-

 

STEPS BEING TAKEN TO PRESERVE POSTERITY OF RECORDS AT SINDH ARCHIVES

(i)           A preservation laboratory has been working for repairing and preservation of

damaged old records.

(ii)         The records being preserved at microfilms also. So far 700 rolls of microfilms, each containing about 2500 document images have been prepared.

(iii)       Old records/manuscripts/pictures etc. are also being scanned and saved at computer devices. So far 71,047 pages of old records 8,462 pages of manuscripts and 3,975 books have been digitized and attached with computer application.

(iv)       Archrivals records related to the history of Sindh being acquired from private sources and other archives/record rooms and reserved.

(v)         District. record rooms of Sindh beings surveyed and provided with technical support to organize/preserve them. District authorities of Khairpur etc. are being provided with technical/in kind support for salvage of records damaged by fire incidents.

(vi)       The process of acquisition of records, in original or their copies, of other organizations like jail, police and municipality has been just started.

(a)   The number of documentaries and “infomercials” made by the Information Department to promote Sindh culturally and economically during the period from 1st January, 2008 to 29th April, 2008;

(b)   What steps are being taken by the Department to promote Sindh at an internal level?

ANSWER

MS.SHAZIA MARI, Minister for Information:

(a)      The preparation of documentaries aimed at promoting the cultural heritage is the responsibility of Culture Department. The Sindh Information Department is, however, responsible to prepare documentaries on the development projects and socio-economic        up-liftment of the province.

It may be pointed out here that no documentary on the socio-economic upliftment was prepared by the Department during the period in question i.e. 1st January, 2008 to 29th April, 2008.

(b)      The question is incomplete and needs to be elaborated with a view to respond to it properly.

 

*142. MR. ARIF MUSTAFA JATOI: Will the Minister for Information be pleased to state:-

Amount paid during each month by the Departments on account of advertising in the Broadcast Media (i.e. Television and Radio) during the period from 1st January, 2008 to 30th April, 2008?

RESOLUTION
Provincial Assembly of Sindh at its sitting held on 30th June, 2008 has unanimously passed the following Resolution moved by  Dr. Sikandar Ali Mandhro, MPA:-

"This Assembly resolves and recommends to the Federal Government to issue the Official passports to Hon'ble members of Provincial Assembly of Sindh and their family members as contemplated in Article 4 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan."
